This expedition will investigate, through 21 days, the marine ecosystems of the Galápagos islands, considered some of the richest in the planet, and will produce a one hour documentary to show these marvels to the world.

The scientists from National Geographic, leaded by Dr. Enric Sala, attended an important technical conference dictated by specialist technicians from the Dirección del Parque Nacional Galápagos, about their conservation practices and controls for the marine reserve, that was received with interest by the expeditionary.

Also, representatives from the Ministerio del Ambiente referred to the importance of this project for Galápagos and Ecuador.

Later on the day, the activities moved to Academy Bay, where “Argo” the scientific ship from National Geographic, was anchored.

Scientists, divers and filmmakers where carefully loading their hi-tech gear, with high expectation for the soon to come departure of the expedition.

Remote depth cameras, decompression chambers, filming gear and secondary ships are part of the modern scientific equipment for the exploration.

The captain of the ship gave his impressions about the expedition.

As the sun set, the ship sailed to the exploration of the pristine eco systems of the Galápagos, and important conclusions and news are expected for the following days.
